About the Bum

I have a degree or training in Recreation and Outdoor Education, Swift Water Rescue, AMGA Top-Rope Site Manager, Wilderness First Responder, High and Low Ropes Course Management, Climbing Instructor, Sea Kayak Instructor, Ski Patroller, and as a Winter Camping Guide.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota Duluth I interned for the Parks and Recreation Department in Missoula, MT. Since then I have spent 2 seasons living on the flanks of Mount Hood managing a ski cabin for Reed College of Portland, OR. In addition, I also teach occasional Physical Education classes and lead outdoor trips.

After a 4 month journey during the summer of 2008 where I spent extended time in a canoe, sea kayak, strapped to a backpack, and navigating my truck between Wisconsin and Oregon, I arrived back at the cabin for the start of my third season.

With my favorite 4-legged friend Tischer, I am hopeful for a stellar season ahead, filled with back-country skiing and camping, surfing, skijoring, brewing beer, and writing.

Also check out my other blog where you’ll find more details on my activities and thoughts pertaining to this life I have chosen.  If Facebook is your thing (it has recently become mine), look me up on there as well.
